Why August 15th is a public holiday in France
[]
The Local France
You might think that the whole of France is already on holiday in August, but the middle of the month sees an important public holiday. August is holiday season in France, the month when offices close, many small bars, cafés and shops close and people head away from the cities towards the coasts. Although some places close up for the holiday, this is not one of the major holidays in France's calendar, so don't expect widespread closures.
