For seven years, Republicans have promised a full repeal. For seven years, some of them have promised a better plan. They never had one. Indeed, as you mentioned, the only acceptable replacement is one that goes way further than Obamacare. This is a political crisis of their own making. The key problem, however, is that many white poor and middle class voters in red states and now in swing states have repeatedly voted against their own self-interest. They have voted for Republicans who promised to abolish social security, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid when they, these white voters, more than anybody depended on these programs. Why would they do that? Because they had convinced themselves it was best to do away with these programs because "minorities" where "exploiting" them, while they, the white poor and middle class, were obviously the only people to entitled. This is hard to believe and to understand, but it is because of this basic fact that I believe these vters will continue to vote for the representatives of the oligarchy. The difference is, however, that for the first time in their life times, they have the opportunity to succeed in their irrational desire to abolish most social programs. It will only be after the damage is done that they might come to their senses. Possibly.
