Despite £3m being spent on the lock gates in 2023 and 2024, they broke last year and had to be repaired, and malfunctioned again during the weekend and Environment Agency (EA) engineers had to be called in to fix them But Mr Pollard is still calling on the EA to “come up with a proper, long-term solution to fix the footbridge, and to keep the lock gates operational”. The EA stressed that the lock gates have received “significant EA-funded capital maintenance particularly in the past three years as well as regular routine maintenance.
