Sweden has changed its permanent residence rules, allowing eligible temporary residence permit holders to apply as soon as they complete the required qualification period instead of waiting until their current permit is due for renewal. Under the previous rule, applicants who had already completed the required residence period still had to wait until their temporary permit came up for renewal before applying for permanent residence. Once permanent residence is granted, the temporary residence permit can be revoked and replaced with the permanent residence permit.
