What if there had been a billionaire’s or millionaire’s tax back then—once a billionaire’s tax is implemented, history shows that the threshold at which the tax kicks in will keep ratcheting down—and Elon had concluded: “You know what, at this tax rate, further entrepreneurship isn’t worth the aggravation. America’s laws—our stock laws, our government spending, our laws designed to encourage innovation, the LLC, the spending on new science, the substantial depreciation of new acquisitions in the tax laws, the 401(k) tax deferral—paved the way for the concentration of wealth.
