Andrea Loewen Nair, a counselor and parenting educator, coined the term “after-school restraint collapse” to describe something parents often told her about: kids falling apart after school because they just couldn’t hold in their emotions anymore. After-school restraint collapse can happen to any child. A flood of emotion after school, or “restraint collapse,” is common in kids who have ADHD or other kinds of neurodivergence.
