The Federal Government will increase the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme eligibility threshold from 100 kW (kilowatts) to 1 MW (megawatt), potentially reducing the upfront cost of eligible commercial, industrial and agricultural solar installations by around 20 per cent. According to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, Australia has around 22 GW (gigawatts) of residential solar installed, compared with approximately 5.6 GW across businesses, with most commercial installations comprising systems below 100 kW. “More rooftop solar means lower energy costs, a stronger economy and faster progress towards an energy system powered by Australian renewable energy.”
