Mr Burnham's plans will allow communities to have a say over what businesses can open in their town centres and how local high streets should look. Under the new measures, the government will also require planning permission for vape shops, giving locals a say on whether they should open and to stop them opening near schools. Over the next six months, councils will be supported in revitalising their high streets, drawing on successful examples such as Cross Street in Oswestry and Keynsham High Street.
