Self-described as "Hobbit black metal," Lammoth really lives up to its descriptor, mixing very solid black metal fundamentals with video-gamey synths that add a serious layer of hopefulness amidst the riffing. Tolkien as lyrical inspiration is pretty well-trodden territory at this point for heavy metal and black metal especially, but Onward might be the first full-length record to solely focus on the unsung hero Bill the Pony, who helped accompany the Hobbits along their quest to the gates of Moria.
