Absolute Batman Annual was up against some of the greatest single issues to hit comics stands in this decade by some of the industry’s greatest creators ever, including Assorted Crisis Events #4 by Deniz Camp, Eric Zawadzki, Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp, Javier Rodriguez, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Ice Cream Man #43 by W. Maxwell Prince, Martin Morazzo, et al., and Something is Killing the Children: A Monster Walks into a Bar #1 by James Tynion IV and Wether Dell’Edera. The work of Banister, as well as the other four archivists nominated is far more representative of the value that archivists and historians provide the comics world in their often thankless work restoring, collecting, and editing comics that might otherwise never again see the light of day.
