According to Chico ISD, Chico Elementary School was evacuated after the fire reached the campus. Unless picked up by their parents, students were expected to remain at Chico High School until Wise County Emergency Management gave the all-clear. Crews were able to put out the fire near the school by 2 p.m. but remained in the area, anticipating some areas to reignite.
