After leading authorities on a chase through six different townships, a wanted suspect crashed his vehicle into a murky waterway.
However, instead of immediately surrendering, he decided to stop and take a smoke break as his SUV sank into the swamp.
According to an official Facebook incident report from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was ultimately rescued from drowning by the very deputies he was trying to outrun.
“GILMORE was given instructions by deputies; however, he refused to comply,” the Sheriff’s Office.
