The College Fix reports:As undergrad, Abdul El-Sayed protested conservative students’ event condemning radical Islamic terrorismLong before Abdul El-Sayed became the Democratic nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, he was an undergrad at the University of Michigan who once took part in a protest against a conservative student event condemning radical Islamic terrorism. El-Sayed attended the state’s flagship university from 2003 to 2007, serving as the Muslim Student Association vice president during his senior year. It was in this role that he participated in a walkout of an event in January 2007 titled “Terrorism: The World’s Greatest Threat” hosted by Young Americans for Freedom. The event featured three Arab men who had been involved in radical Islamic terrorism before converting to Christianity and openly condemning their former ways: Walid Shoebat, Zachariah Anani, and Kamal Saleem. According to a 2007 article in the Michigan Daily student newspaper, the event was protested by various student groups and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee for allegedly generalizing all Muslims.
