Last Friday, the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) announced that it would be granting staffers at its V&A East Storehouse the changes they had requested regarding the institution’s break policy, marking the latest development in an ongoing struggle between staffers and the museum. Previously, staffers at the V&A’s storage-facility-turned-museum, who are represented by the trade union Prospect, had voted unanimously to strike over working conditions they alleged were substandard. The union subsequently demanded two paid breaks for staffers per shift, a request which the V&A has now agreed to fulfill. The members of the Prospect union will still be going forward with their planned strike, which will unfold across the V&A’s three other locations in London. Members of the Prospect union have been in ongoing negotiations with the V&A over increases in wages since February, the V&A said in a statement.
