Obra, Sordo Madaleno’s new exhibition space, offers “a public living room” for London’s Latin American diaspora

Fernando Sordo Madaleno de Haro relocated from Mexico City to London in 2023 after his family’s architecture firm landed a major project in the Middle East. The exhibition design of Memory as Material was created with Mexico City–based architect, curator, and researcher Brunno Douat and in collaboration with rebar workers (fierreros) who are building two of SM’s projects in Mexico City. SM plans to take this approach back to its main office in Mexico City: Obra Mexico will open there in 2027.
