Mike Wiener, R-Long Prairie, narrowly defeated incumbent State Sen. Paul Utke, R-Park Rapids, in the Republican primary for Senate District 5 on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Utke led in Hubbard County polling with 1,393 votes or 69.13% to Wiener’s 622 votes or 30.87%. 5 comprises all of Todd and Wadena counties, southern and central Hubbard County and parts of Becker, Cass and Morrison counties. In November, Jude will face incumbent Steve Simon, who ran unchallenged in the DFL primary. Incumbent Attorney General Keith Ellison survived a DFL primary challenge, also winning in Hubbard County with 1,491 votes or about 82%.
