Tropical Storm Cristobal has officially formed in the northern Atlantic Ocean, marking the end of a weeks-long lull in tropical activity across the basin. A strong tropical wave located east of the Caribbean is currently moving west-northwestward along the southern edge of the Bermuda-Azores high-pressure system. The ultimate trajectory and intensity of the tropical wave remain dependent on atmospheric conditions over the coming days. Conversely, rapid intensification into a stronger tropical storm or hurricane would likely prompt the system to curve north before reaching the islands. In addition to these two systems, meteorologists are watching a trailing tropical wave that recently moved off the western coast of Africa.
