The government has defended its decision to revoke the mining leases of Adamus Resources Limited, saying the action was based on regulatory breaches, mining outside approved areas and unpaid financial obligations. Financial obligationsThe ministry also cited outstanding financial obligations as another reason for the revocation. It said the Minerals Commission had established that Adamus had accumulated financial obligations and defaults linked to its mining operations. According to the ministry, mining lease holders are required to meet their statutory financial commitments to the state in addition to complying with technical and environmental conditions. It maintained that the action was not intended to transfer Adamus Resources’ assets to any preferred investor.
