AdvertisementThe subject land situated in Vile Parle (East), Mumbai, was reserved for a playground for a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) primary school. Following purchase notices served by the landowners under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, acquisition proceedings were formally initiated. Initially, the Special Land Acquisition Officer awarded a meager compensation of ₹4,60,21,140/-. Dissatisfied with the award, the claimants accepted the amount under protest and filed a reference before the Hon’ble Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority (LARRA) seeking enhancement. On June 22, 2026, after evaluating the awards passed, sale deeds placed on record, and evidence adduced, the Hon’ble LARRA held that the initial reductions were arbitrary.
