Area students and parents have mixed feelings when it comes to a pending cell phone ban in schools. School districts will not be permitted to enforce the ban using fines, suspensions, expulsions, or using police or school resource officers, according to Gov. The policy will limit student cell phone use during classroom instruction, while allowing teachers to authorize cell phone use when it serves a specific and appropriate educational purpose. Shorewood parent Angelica Ramirez applauds the cell phone ban. But parent Chris Matkowicz of Joliet said cell phones do offer a sense of security.
