The federal government is sending more than $3.73 million to Vancouver Island to help support 20 climate resilience projects across the Island. The funding it’s receiving from the feds is going towards implementing “community-based action for climate resilience through vegetation management,” according to an announcement by Environment and Climate Change Canada on Thursday. The $3.73 million for 20 projects on Vancouver Island is part of a larger total of $34.2 million going to 141 climate resilience projects across the country. Feds say that funding for climate resilience projects will help communities save money in the long running, noting that 2024 was the most expensive year in Canadian history for extreme-weather related damage, totalling an estimated $9.4 billion in insured losses.
