MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) — Marshfield Common Council members received an early look Tuesday at the environmental and infrastructure questions communities may face if large artificial intelligence data centers seek to locate in central Wisconsin. Amy Barrilleaux of Clean Wisconsin gave an informational presentation focused on electricity demand, water use, farmland conversion and air pollution associated with large-scale data centers. Much of Clean Wisconsin’s concern centers on additional electricity generation needed to serve the facilities. Following the presentation, council members asked limited questions. At the conclusion, city officials said the information could help Marshfield know what questions to ask should it ever receive a data center proposal.
