Türk called for an instant and impartial investigation of any death resulting from the state of unrest, including those of protesters as well as security forces personnel. Protests have been organized by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a social movement of students, traders, transporters, lawyers, and other kinds of activists. This organization has been outlawed as an extremist group due to its alleged threat to public safety and order, and its leaders have since been arrested. However, the perspective offered by Türk does just the opposite, pointing towards research, deliberation, and communication, means which de-escalate the crisis. Kashmir continues to be one of the most militarized and disputed regions, split between Pakistani, Indian, and Chinese administered areas.
