This was one such occasion when five who belonged to the Abingdon division received awards at the annual inspection in 1974. Four nursing cadets received their Grand Prior of the Order of St John badges, the top cadet award, and the Superintendent based in Abingdon, David Hodson, was given a 15-year service medal. The girls who received their badges, pictured here with Superintendent Hodson, were, left to right, Carol Richardson, 16, of Crosslands Drive, Abingdon, Tracey Franklin, 14, and Hilary Franklin, 16, both of Farmoor Farm, Farmoor, and Wendy Burn, 16, of Wordsworth Road, Abingdon. Tracey, Hilary and Wendy were pupils at St Helen’s School, Abingdon, and Carol, a former pupil of Larkmead School, was about to start a pre-nursing course at Oxford College of Further Education.
