Kermit Davis Sr., former Mississippi State basketball player, head coach and administrator, died Monday at 91. He served four seasons as an assistant coach under Joe Dan Gold before stepping into the head coaching role. Davis was the Bulldogs’ head coach for seven seasons, and ended his career with a 91-91 record. After retiring from coaching, Davis served as the associate director for the Bulldog Club, MSU’s athletic fundraising arm, from 1980-90. His son, Kermit Davis Jr., followed in his fathers footsteps in coaching, and had a five-year stint as Ole Miss head coach from 2019-2023.
