ICE Plans $20 Million Purchase of Electric Shock Gloves for Officers
['Yucatan Times']

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is moving to equip thousands of its agents with electric shock gloves, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) notice detailing a planned $20 million contract.
The agency aims to deploy the compliance devices to officers nationwide by March 2027.
Proponents say the high-voltage pulse creates a temporary pain stimulus similar to a bee sting, forcing physical compliance within seconds without leaving visible marks or burns.
Security analysts suggest the gloves could assist officers during high-resistance scenarios, such as extracting noncompliant individuals from vehicles, residences, or crowded holding facilities.
Advocates argued that introducing concealed electroshock devices into routine civil immigration enforcement dramatically increases the risk of excessive force.
