After all, the venture capitalist and the former Disney CEO purchased the Los Angeles Lakers in a record-breaking $12 billion deal, multiple outlets confirmed Aug. 12.
“As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers,” Kushner, married to supermodel Karlie Kloss, and Iger said in a statement to ESPN, “One of the most iconic sports franchises in the world.”
The duo emphasized they have “immense respect for the leadership and vision” of the former majority owner Jerry Buss and his daughter Jeanie Buss, who sold their stake to Mark Walter for a reported $10 billion last year.
“Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level,” Kushner and Iger continued, “and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.”
