The authority’s food safety teams inspected a number of food businesses and manufacturing units during the operations, confiscating and discarding large quantities of substandard food items and imposing fines on violators, according to a statement issued on Wednesday. The unit was sealed over violations of food safety laws and further legal action was initiated against those responsible. Following the detection of skimmed milk powder adulteration, 1,000 litres of substandard milk were discarded. The Special Assistant to KP CM on Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan lauded the performance of the food safety teams and said that violations of food safety laws would not be tolerated. Dr. Israr said the crackdown against elements involved in adulteration and the production and sale of substandard food would continue without discrimination, adding that all possible measures were being taken to safeguard public health.
