Meta faces 29 states in the largest youth social media trial yet

Just The News - Not The Noise
The trial, in Oakland, is expected to last seven weeks and involves claims by 29 states that Meta illegally collected children’s data and used them in violation of federal law.
The trial also comes amid a broader backlash around the world over the impacts of social media on young users, some of which include the UK and Australia's announcement of nationwide social media bans for children under 16.
A majority of Americans, 85%, also thought that social media could be addictive for children, while 61% of responders said social media companies needed stricter oversight according to a poll by Reuters/Ipsos last week.
Meta also settled a lawsuit brought by a Kentucky school district that was set for a trial in June.
In these cases, the company has also argued that they could not have misled consumers over whether their products were addictive, because “social media addiction” is not an official psychiatric condition.
