Artists can begin voluntarily disclosing that they’re AI personas starting now, but Spotify says it won’t rely solely on self-reporting. Artists will also be able to appeal if Spotify applies the label to their profile, and listeners will eventually be able to report profiles they believe should carry the badge. Perhaps the most notable part of the announcement is what Spotify isn’t labeling. In other words, Spotify isn’t trying to determine whether AI was used to write lyrics, generate album art or assist with production. Spotify has largely embraced AI-powered features across its platform, but this is one of its clearest attempts yet to distinguish between human artists and synthetic identities.
