NEWPORT, R.I. — Newport’s summer heat wave met its match on the water as a record 75 teams battled through three days of racing at the 2026 Safe Harbor Race Weekend. “The crew rose to the occasion and performed some magic I didn’t know they were capable of,” owner Steve Eddleston said. Wendy Schmidt’s Azulito captured ORC A, while David Fass’ Zammermoos took ORC B with four wins in six races. Steve Liebel’s New Wave topped 18 IC37s, while Dan Cheresh’s Extreme2 dominated the new Swan 28 class with four victories. Event Director Peter Craig said the 75-boat fleet was the largest in Race Weekend history.
