Most cyclists are safe, considerate, and polite, but I think we need to acknowledge that some people are arseholes, whether they’re behind the wheel or behind a handlebar. As we were driving south, a constant flow of northbound traffic meant there was no chance of safely overtaking the cyclist. Arseholes exist in every walk of life, and I think as cyclists, we need to add nuance into our conversation, because some people are arseholes and their actions should not be defended. Nobody in their right mind would claim that because one person is driving like an arsehole, that automatically means that all drivers are arseholes. It’s no wonder they struggle to see that an individual cyclist can be an arsehole rather than all cyclists collectively.
