It’s smooth sailing once again on Highway 17, also known as the Pat Bay Highway, with the official completion of the Keating Cross Overpass. Construction of the overpass in Central Saanich kicked off in summer 2023, and opened to travellers in July 2025. The goal of the project was to make this stretch of the Pat Bay Highway safer, as previously commuters heading north needed to cross two lanes of oncoming highway traffic to turn left onto Keating Cross Road. government providing $57.6 million, the federal government contributing $16.7 million, and the District of Central Saanich providing $2.5 million. “The completion of the Keating Cross Road Overpass is a major milestone for Central Saanich,” said Mayor Ryan Windsor.
