A parent has expressed concerns about safeguarding, particularly during dark periods in the winter months, following changes to school transport arrangements for pupils attending Preston Lodge High School.
The senior pupils will use their free bus passes, available to all young people under the age of 22 in Scotland, to travel on public buses.
“[East Lothian Council] transport services have worked closely with their transport operators to ensure that capacity and reliability are appropriate for this change to minimise any disruption for pupils.”
A total of 82 pupils in S4 and S5 previously used the dedicated transport, while S6 pupils were already assigned to public service transport.
“Public transport is already successfully utilised by Preston Lodge pupils, including those travelling from Longniddry, and this model supports a consistent and equitable approach across all schools.”
