The government is poised to announce a raft of new policies in September, multiple Whitehall and civil society sources told Middle East Eye. These policies are still under discussion, but are set to include a ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements. Since then he has come under significant pressure from Labour backbenchers to ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements and take other strong positions on issues in the Middle East. Polling of Labour members earlier this year showed that a staggering 87 percent support a ban on trade with Israeli settlements, with only six percent opposing it.
