A groundbreaking two-dimensional color map of the universe has been unveiled, featuring an astonishing 5.6 trillion pixels and nearly 4 billion stars, galaxies, and other celestial bodies. This vast map was developed by the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys team and spans approximately 75% of the sky in visible and near-infrared light. The entire dataset is accessible to the public, inviting astronomers, students, and curious skywatchers to explore the cosmos via the Legacy Survey Sky Viewer. Creating this colossal map involved compiling 263,407 individual telescope exposures collected across 2,285 nights. Now, with nearly 4 billion objects charted, this latest release offers an unprecedented glimpse into the universe, accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
