The Next Step in CME’s 24/7 StrategyThe decision is about considerably more than adding another metals contract to a growing product list. Historically, futures markets have closed for maintenance periods and weekend breaks, creating gaps between Friday’s settlement prices and Monday’s reopening. Rather than expanding weekend access to its flagship physically deliverable 5,000-Ounce COMEX Silver futures, the exchange selected its financially settled 100-Ounce Silver contract, which launched only in February 2026. The strategy mirrors the 1-Ounce Gold futures contract that entered 24/7 trading in July. If approved, it will further demonstrate CME’s willingness to reshape how traditional futures markets operate in response to changing investor behaviour.
