The accident involving a Carris Metropolitana bus in Agualva-Cacém, in July, in which two people died and 20 others were injured, was due to an error “of a human nature” by the driver, Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) revealed today. “After the accident, technical tests were again carried out on the braking system, its respective components were inspected and electronic diagnostics were performed, with no fault or malfunction detected that could compromise traffic safety”, it assured. According to TML, regardless of these conclusions, Viação Alvorada defined “a set of additional preventive measures, including the reinforcement of operational procedures among drivers”. “The investigation found that the vehicle’s destination sign needed to be changed and that the driver proceeded to make the corresponding change. The PSP told Lusa that the case relating to the accident “was forwarded to the office of the Sintra-Central Public Prosecutor’s Office”.
