The Eswatini Government reported in its facebook page in June this year that representatives from Namibia’s Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) visited the small landlocked southern African country to transform its Environment Fund into a mega-financing vehicle for billions in environmental investments.
The Eswatini Government was impressed to learn that the EIF has attracted nearly N$5 billion in climate finance and environmental funding from bilateral and multilateral partners, such as the Green Climate Fund.
The fund has financed projects across several sectors like agriculture, waste management, biodiversity conservation, marine projects, renewable energy and carbon markets.
A major development highlighted by the Namibian delegation was the EIF’s recent success in securing funds from the Climate Investment Fund.
This funding is intended for projects that contribute to climate resilience and sustainable development, further demonstrating the potential of environmental investment funds to attract large-scale international climate finance.
