The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), has stated that the Nigeria Customs modernisation model has been adopted by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), as the template for a $3.1bn project to modernise Customs across Africa. The ICRC Director-General, Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh disclosed this in Abuja, while reacting to the signing of the AfCFTA Customs Modernisation Project concession agreement. The agreement, signed between the AfCFTA Secretariat and Bergmans Security Consultants and Supplies Limited, the parent company of the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP), will deploy the Nigerian-developed customs solution across about 50 AfCFTA member countries. The Commission cited the Lekki Deep Sea Port as another example of successful PPP infrastructure delivery in Nigeria. The ICRC said the AfCFTA Customs Modernisation Project demonstrates the potential of Nigeria’s PPP framework to drive investment, improve public-sector efficiency and support economic integration across Africa.
