Football’s deep connection to African identity, culture and community took center stage at the National Museum of African Art as part of the “Stars, Stripes, and Stadiums: America’s 250th & FIFA 2026” celebration in the United States (U.S.).
The panel explored how African football continues to shape global conversations around culture and representation.
Also featured was Richmond Danso (PhD), a Washington, DC-based writer covering African football, identity and the diaspora.
Dr. Danso has profiled all ten African nations that participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and brought an academic and cultural perspective to the discussion as a Professor of Political Science at Howard University.
The event was also attended by the National Museum of African Art Director John Lapiana, who joined guests in celebrating the museum’s role in highlighting the intersection of African culture, creativity and global conversations around football.
