An autopsy has ruled the death of former NC State swimmer and coach Jack Roney an accidental drowning. Roney died on July 5 at the age of 39, and initially no cause of death was given by the family. According to the investigative report, Roney had a history of ADHD and was in a “good athletic state.” Jack Roney was a member of the NC State men’s swim and dive team in the late 2000s, graduating in 2009 as the program record holder in the 200 backstroke. He coached with the Raleigh Swimming Association after graduation before joining the NC State staff as director of operations and volunteer assistant coach from 2014 to 2016.
