Covington, LA - William "Red" MengelThe world lost a one-of-a-kind husband, dad, uncle, Paw Paw, friend, and boss on Thursday, July 30, 2026. William "Red" Mengel was 93 years old and passed away peacefully in Covington, Louisiana. Red was a native of New Orleans and had been a resident of Covington for the past 35 years. Growing up in the 7th Ward during the Great Depression, Red learned the value of hard work at an early age. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Simon Mengel and Lucille Douglas Mengel; his brother Charles Mengel; and sisters Jacqueline Mengel and Eileen Oster.
