A never–before–seen astronomical object has been discovered in the very early universe – and scientists believe it's a mashup of a black hole and a huge star.
The black hole star, dubbed MoM–BH*–1, is an enormous cloud of gas powered, not by fusion, but by the terrible forces of a central black hole.
Critically, the researchers think that MoM–BH*–1 could be just one of hundreds of black hole stars that have been hiding in plain sight.
'Black Hole Star may lie at the heart of every Little Red Dot,' says Dr Naidu.
'All the peculiarities and puzzles surrounding the Little Red Dots begin to make sense once you place black hole stars at their centres.'
