The National Civil Society Coalition in Defence of Democracy has called on security agencies to maintain strict political neutrality and professionalism during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election. The coalition said it had received allegations of attempts to influence the operational deployment of security personnel in some parts of the state, particularly areas regarded as opposition strongholds. It appealed to serving military officers and other security personnel to resist any pressure that could compromise their professional responsibilities or expose them to unlawful conduct. The coalition further urged international election monitors and local observers in Osun State to pay close attention to the conduct of security personnel, particularly in areas identified as potential flashpoints. “We call on international monitors and local observers to take note of these allegations and pay particular attention to the conduct of security agencies in all parts of Osun State.
