Grantsville City held a public hearing at the City Council Chambers on Wednesday, Aug. 5, to discuss a property tax increase that would provide the city with an additional $110,832 in annual revenue.
The Truth in Taxation public hearing considered increasing its property tax revenue by 4.98% over the previous year’s budgeted property tax revenue, excluding revenue associated with eligible new growth.
For a business valued at the same amount, the city tax would increase from $797.77 to $837.74, or $39.97 annually.
During the public hearing, supporters and opponents to the proposed property tax increase expressed their concerns and questions to the council.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the proposed property tax increase passed among council members with a 4-1 approval, councilman Derek Dalton acting as the only opposed.
