Tropical Storm Cristobal Forms Over Central AtlanticTropical Storm Cristobal formed over the central subtropical Atlantic on Wednesday, becoming the third named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
The National Hurricane Center said in its 3 p.m. GMT advisory that Cristobal had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, with higher gusts.
The storm was centered near latitude 36.7 North, longitude 43.0 West, about 880 miles west of the Azores.
Forecasters expect Cristobal to turn toward the east-northeast and slow down later Wednesday and Wednesday night.
The storm is not expected to pose a threat to land.
