GKIDS and Fathom Entertainment are bringing Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky back to U.S. theaters for five days of screenings in August, marking the film’s 40th anniversary. The 1986 fantasy adventure follows Pazu, an engineer’s apprentice, and Sheeta, a mysterious girl who descends from the sky with the aid of a glowing pendant. Together, they search for Laputa, a legendary floating castle, while being pursued by air pirates, military forces, and government agents seeking to control its power. The engagement is the latest in a long-running series of theatrical rereleases from GKIDS and Fathom, which have regularly returned Studio Ghibli films to U.S. theaters. Tickets for Castle in the Sky are on sale now through participating theaters.
