Morocco’s phosphate giant OCP Group has received approval to create two new subsidiaries under OCP Green Water dedicated to seawater desalination and water transport. The approval was published in the Official Gazette. OCP said the move is part of its strategy to support national water sovereignty by supplying water for industrial, household and irrigation use, while also professionalizing operations through independent legal entities with dedicated governance and financial transparency, and encouraging public-private partnerships in water infrastructure. Created in 2022, OCP Green Water already runs an installed capacity of 320 million cubic meters as of 2025, securing water autonomy for all of OCP’s mining and industrial operations while supplying drinking water to Safi, El Jadida and southern Casablanca, and now Khouribga as well. Capacity is set to rise to 610 million cubic meters by 2027, extending drinking water supply to additional cities including Marrakech.
