Tower Block In A Jam Jar by Mozart Estate | New Albums
['Peter Barry']
Record Collector Magazine
Underground pop’s most infamous eccentric, notoriously besieged by bad luck and his own obstinacy, Lawrence has become defined by failure for much of his one-of-a-kind artistic path.
Sensing an opportunity, Lawrence has readied an album aimed squarely at the newly Lawrence-curious.
One track is markedly different: the glam stomp of the meth-taking At The DDU has changed lyric to become A Lorra Laughs With Cilla, about a skint single mum taking solace in Surprise Surprise.
An optimist – and Lawrence is certainly that – could easily see that that these songs, newly presented, could yet find an audience.
But whether or not Tower Block In A Jam Jar changes his fortunes to any great degree, as an introduction to Lawrence’s singularly weird and wonderful world, it’s an ideal place to start.
